STITCH GUIDE

Stockinette Stitch

Row 1: (right side) Knit all stitches.

Row 2: Purl all stitches.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for pattern.

Garter Stitch

Knit all rows.

BACK

With edging needles, cast on 64 (70, 76, 80, 84) stitches. Work 1" (2.5 cm) in garter stitch, ending with a wrong-side row. Change to body needles and stockinette stitch and work even until piece measures 23 (24, 25, 25, 26)" (58.5 [61, 63.5, 63.5, 66] cm) from cast-on edge, ending with a wrong-side row. On next row (right side), knit across first 21 (24, 26, 27, 29) stitches and place on stitch holder. Bind off next 22 (22, 24, 26, 26) stitches. Work across remaining 21 (24, 26, 27, 29) stitches and place on second stitch holder. Cut yarn.

FRONT

Work as for back until piece measures 19½ (20½, 21½, 21½, 22½)" (49.5 [52, 54.5, 54.5, 57] cm), ending with a wrong-side row. Shape neck: Knit across 29 (32, 34, 36, 38) stitches, join new yarn and bind off center 6 (6, 8, 8, 8) stitches, knit to end of row. Working each side of neck with a separate ball of yarn, bind off at each side of neck edge 3 stitches once, 2 stitches once, then 1 stitch 3 (3, 3, 4, 4) times. Work even until piece measures same as back, place remaining 21 (24, 26, 27, 29) stitches each side on stitch holders. Cut yarn.
